Report: States set low bar for student achievement - Yahoo! News

I think it is really sad for our kids that states will lower standards just to meet federal goals for improvement.

Very sad, and one of the reasons I will send my (Hypothetical) children to our local private/parochial school. They really focus on achievement, competence, and have smaller class sizes, as well as having the highest test scores of a parochial school in our state.

I don't understand why education standards aren't set on a national level. Anyone know why?
