This is so sad and way to close to home.

This breaks my heart.

One of our former students came from a family where his dad was murdered in one of these high-profile shootouts. Our boy was so young he had no memories of his father. Not only was the dad's life cut short but it completely broke down what otherwise would have been a very happy family.

I am just now finding out details about this. I have a friend who has a son stationed at Hood and Hood is where DH spent his entire military career except for the time he was overseas. The area where this shooting happened is just about 2 miles from the house where we lived.

As sad as this is and as bad as I feel for the families involved, I really hope that this will make the military take a closer look at how they are handling combat stress, deployments, and post traumatic stress disorder. Fort Hood is supposed to be the center of the combat stress program and to have a psychiatrist do this there is just awful.

I feel for the victims' families.

From what I've read, the suspect never has been deployed or in combat, so I'm not sure how he could be suffering from combat stress of any sort.

this makes me so sad. i don't understand why people can kill others at random. i really hope the victims' families are able to find peace.

And to think he was supposed to be "helping" soldiers who were in actual combat!
