What are your thoughts on the speech he did on Wednesday night?

I'd love to weigh in, but I only saw sound bytes on the 10pm news. I do think people want a simple answer to the war in Iraq, and there isn't one.

I didn't watch it, I made a point NOT to watch it. You're right, people want a cut and dry answer about it and there isn't one. I asked Dh and he told me that it would be a BAD idea for them to pull out now, and that it would completely mess up everything they had fought and sacrificed for up until now. So I just try to stay positive knowing that ONE day it will be done.

I have to be honest, I didn't watch it. I've been so busy I didn't even know I was missing it, I haven't watched tv in weeks. I'm not a fan of Bush, never have been. That said, as former Army we really can't pull out now. It would cause even more problems than before the world started. Your right the American people want a simple answer, there will never be one, this will take many years and will still probably not be handled properly.

I'm not trying to pick on you southern belle, but this answer has struck a cord for me. It has struck a cord because I've been hearing and reading this response for far to long now.
I wish I could find my McNamara/Johnson transcripts from college stating these very same words about Vietnam.
20,000 more troops will not make one bit of difference in Iraq. It will only give the militants more of an incentive to increase the number of innocent men, women, and children they will kill. And they will continue to kill, history has proven it.
Insurgency from the US is going to prove even more disastrous.
Those brave soldiers need to come.
I know I've probably ruffled some feathers here, I'm sorry, but I just can't stand hearing about all the soldiers and innocent people being murdered anymore.

Coming from a military family background I really feel like Bush is trying to do the right thing. He's not perfect, has made mistakes but I really think that in his heart he has done what he feels is best for this country. I'm probably one of the few who still thinks we should have gone there. With all the other countries having the same intelligence and thinking he had the weapons its impossible to say he lied about the reasons for going in. All the UN resolutions that were just ignored had become nothing but empty threats and I am certain countries like Iran and North Korea were watching and saying they don't have the stones to do anything about this nor will they about us. I also know that if we leave we will have to go back and it will be much worse that way. I think the large majority of the people who oppose everything the man does have fallen victim to a giant media machine that constantly feeds nothing but negativity about him. I admit I voted for him twice and am disappointed in a number of things he's done but just as he said last night, the other side is offering only criticism---not ideas. We need to stay and finish the job, but the gloves need to come off. If we aren't going to stay and finish it no matter what it takes then yes, we should bring the troops home but that would be a terrible mistake. Millions of people would be killed, Iran will take over and Iraq will become a hundred times worse than Afganistan ever was and we will have worse than 911 on American soil in our future. I noticed last night how tired and defeated he looked. Who wouldn't be because no matter what he does he's trashed and called a liar and all sorts of other things. I think its time to step aside from politics, look at what is best for this country and stand behind our president and troops for the good of all.n my soapbox:

I didn't watch it. I just can't watch him. There is no good answer to the war. It should have never started, but we can't change that now. If we leave, it will be bad for them, look what we've done to their country and for what... If we stay, our men and women stay in harms way and for what... There is no good ending. Honestly, we will undoubtedly have another terrorist attach here at home. It only takes one missed detail to have it happen and honestly most of our military is in Iraq and we are sitting here with our pants down and our lovely media has broadcasted that fact to those who would love to do something about it. We are in a very bad position...it's sad and frightening.

  Oh PLEASE don't think you're going to upset me!! It's not going to happen. I only say that because that is what I have heard from Dh. He says it would be almost insulting to those we have lost already to stop now. I honestly can admit I don't know a whole lot about it all. I don't watch the news either. I got that answer from him. The only thing I can HONESTLY say as my opinion is when I can do Bush's job better I will have an opinion on it all. This is NOT MEANT TOWARDS ANYONE ON HERE. I don't agree with everything he does either. I just simply am not educated enough in politics and this whole war thing to know anything about it all, except that my kids and dh's kids miss their daddy a whole bunch when he's gone because of it all.

People around here have a hard time seperating the war, and the soldiers. And I am sorry, but when i see people who dont support war I feel like my husband is wasting his time. I can't help it...
