The 29-year-old mother of three was driving down Gaston Webb’s Chapel Road on Thursday morning to pick up her daughters when she hit an icy spot. Her car flipped down a steep embankment and into a creek.
“I was upside-down in the water, and it (the car) filled up with water really quick,” Grant said.
Grant felt around the car, looking for an escape.
“I really couldn’t tell where I was going, in the water. I just felt, and there was the window on my driver’s side, so I just swam out of it,” Grant said.
But it wasn’t easy. In fact, Grant almost gave up.
“When I finally did get my head and my waist out, my hips got stuck. So I was underwater for at least a minute, minute and a half,” she said.
Grant has three daughters - they’re 11, 9 and 6 years old.
“They are the reason I survived … they’re beautiful, bright little girls, and I couldn’t leave them without a mommy,” she said.
Grant spent the afternoon in the emergency room at Gaston Memorial. She is expected to make a full recovery, and she says she's never going to drive in icy conditions again.
