I've seen this but am hoping it doesn't make people less cautious about safe sex. If you're not risking your life, you're not losing it in the first place. Interesting article though.

Interesting article and thanks for posting it Rakshanda

I still have a problem with it though. No just for religious reasons but I cant beleive what they tell us here that the baby doesnt feel any pain when its done.

I cant buy into that. I know James wanted it done for the boys but I vetoed it. I know if they need it done as adults it does hurt but after the whole birth process which is tramatic on babies I just felt I couldnt put them through anything else.

Im possible a wimp on this

Anne

I guess I've never been with a man who wasn't circumicized, so I have no opinion. However, are they saying that mass circumcision should be done? I don't understand?

I've done a lot of research during my nursing master's program and taken several statistics classes, and you have to be careful inferring conclusions from a study like this unless you have all the details. *They're basing the conclusions on the fact that one part of africa has uncircum. men and have higher HIV rates, while another part of africa with circum. males have a lower rate. *But there could be other factors as well that they don't discuss. *Maybe one part has better preventative education and more men wear condoms. *Maybe one part has more promiscuity with more sexual partners. Maybe one part tests better and so men are more careful about limiting their sexual partners once they know they're infected. *There are LOTS of other things that could explain it. *So unless they're controlling all the extraneous variables, you could be comparing apples to oranges. *So I'm not saying it's not true, but this article certainly doesn't give enough information for me to draw any conclusions from.

Excellent point.

I always felt bad about having it done for my boys--I knew they felt pain. (I didn't buy that they didn't either)

It was quick and they have all adjusted well in the world. We did it because DH had it done, I believe it's a LOT cleaner and for religious reasons--the Dr. that we had tried to talk us out of it because it was an "un-necessary" medical procedure, etc.

Glad we had it done though.

I am with you. We are still discussing it but I am totally against having it done if we have a boy. I will be happy to teach him about safe sex.

My son was snipped, I think it was 1 day after he was born, cant recall. Im sure it was painful, cause everytime he peed he cried. I felt sorry for him, but in the long run I knew it would be good for him.

Boys/men that arent snipped have to take extra special care of themselves to keep it clean, dry, etc.

I was thinking the same thing. The article provides correlational data, but nothing that can prove causality. Therefore, the results must be taken for what they are - another piece of the puzzle.

We circumcised our son. Yes, it was painful. Will he remember that pain when you ask him? No, he won't. We did it because men on both sides of the family have always been circumcised. Perhaps not the best reason, but a reason nonetheless.
