I was just catching up on the Mel Gibson story and was wondering why would police try to conceal what he said during his arrest?

he made some anitsemetic remarks about hating jews ect.

I knew he said something anti-jewish, but why would the police care about protecting Mel Gibson?

I just think the whole thing is absurd. But the last MG movie I saw was Signs and B4 that was Braveheart. I never had the hero worship for him so I am not at all disappointed, I just think, it figures.

I heard it is because he is a supportorof the the Los angeles sheriff (which I think means he gives $ at election time)

He also made a nasty remark to a female officer, but no one is telling what exactly he said

I know he made some horrible remarks and was very beligerant. He made a statement and apologized the following day. He also used the excuse he has batteling alcoholism for years.

I was a Mel fan until he flipped and bashes anyone who doesn't follow his beliefs. I didn't think his religion condoned drinking?

I'm not a huge Mel Gibson fan, but I don't hate him either. I could take him or leave him. What he said was highly offensive. He was drunk and, IMO, sometimes when one is drunk, the truth has a tendancy to slip out of those relaxed lips. Even though he keeps denying that he's an anti-semite, deep down he probably is or he wouldn't have said those things.

Of course, the media has just pounced all over this. It must be a slow news week. I was surprised to see this story on the national news tonight. With all the things going on in the world right now, I can't believe this story rates high on many people's lists.

A lot of high muckity-mucks in Hollyweird are saying that Mel's career is through, but in time I think this scandal will blow over. He'll go on Larry King or some other show and tell his side of the story and that will be it. In a few months, no one will even remember what Mel said.

Yeah, he's already in rehab, so "all will be forgiven". I heard that it wasn't that he gave money to the sheriff's election, but that he helped him with 5 charities. But who knows what the truth is. Supposedly he called the female cop "sugar t*ts". In my opinion he's just another celebrity. I've never gotten why people think celebrities know better (like their political opinions) or should act differently than the rest of us. Just people, and most of them seem highly flawed to me. JMO

He entered Rehab on Monday but the comments occured earlier in weekend. He did what a lot of drunks people do- but because of his name and politics the media jumped all over it.

Not a great fan of his now but loved the original MAD MAX and Lethal Weapon movies.
His father took a lot of heat for being very anti semite and was quite open about it,
I honestly did not know MG was battling alcoholism- good luck in rehab
