One of my good friends and I had a heated discussion about airplane safety the other day. I truly believe that we should be doing everything we can, but there is nothing that can really protect us from the crazy ones. I feel like they will do it again soon just to prove that they can. I am by no means a frequent flyer, but I have flown several times since 9/11 and haven't really noticed anything that would stop someone a truly evil genius.

Do we have any chemistry geniuses on the board? I want to know what chemicals you can hide in a hair-product bottle that can blow up an entire airplane??? Doesn't that seem weird?

I fly home to Minneapolis from Barcelona Spain on Friday. It should be interesting. I connect through Newark, which I know is a busy airport. Fortunately my layover is 3.5 hours long. I just travel with the philosophy to take it one step at a time, and be alert.

"The sports drink could be combined with a peroxide-based paste to form a potent "explosive cocktail," if properly done, said a U.S. counterterrorism official."

Our level was lowered as we did not have any overseas flights-

Safety issue seems to have been flights from UK to US-
however timing of detonations could and would caused mass casualties on ground-
1st big weekend of pro football games and Baseball playoff races are heating up

Treehugger-
at this point Niagara Falls is an International border crossing so it is monitored very well . I did not intend to ruin your plans.
I live in vicinity and feel safe enough to leave my kids at home while I work. It is supposed to be cool this weekend with high of 68-71 on Friday
That is how terrorists work- they make you afraid to live a normal live

Some small tools were allowed back a little while back, like nail files, small scissors etc Pocket knives are still banned.

That being said, if someone wanted to find something to use as a weapon on a flight, I'm sure they could.

I saw an interview with a woman totally bent out of shape because her ds couldn't bring his ipod on board for like a 5hr flight. Umm, how about getting a pen and maybe a crossword puzzle or oh gosh, maybe a book and read!

mommomsquad,
You didn't ruin my plans. I changed them because of the potential risks. If our homeland security finds it necessary to raise the security level, I pay attention to it and stay a little closer to home. Just like w/ "Bucky" whoever that has escaped and learking around our area, I keep my house locked a little tighter and a closer eye on my kids while they are outside playing. It's just my own protect instinct. We will probably go on that trip at another time. This weekend sounds like a better one for a picinic and campout in the backyard.

it's really sad we have to live our lives in fear these days. It's not that this isn't a reality, I mean it's staring us in the face! To live in a world where you are scared to leave home is saddening. The worst part is, I don't think we've really has done anything to stop it. In fact, in many ways, we have perpetuated the building of terrorist groups.

I really hope everyone travels safe.
