Nine firefighters killed in massive blaze; fire consumes Sofa Super Store in West Ashley

I live a 10 minute drive from here. This is such a terrible loss of our heros.

Thoughts and prayers to the families of the Fallen and the surviving firefighters.

This is an incredible tragedy and it has been asked of Firefighters across the nation to observe a moment of silence at 7pm this evening.

Oh, that is so sad! My heart goes out to the families of the firefighters and the other firefighters they worked with. I'll keep them all in my prayers.

My husband was a firefighter for 12 years. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of them.

I saw this on our local news this morning and it just tore my heart out. My grandfather, uncle and godfather were all firefighters and I can remember as a child just being terrified everytime I heard the fire alarm go off. These men are such heroes everyday. This is just such an awful tragedy. My prayers are with their families and those heroes left behind.

As it turns out, One of those firefighters was a neighbor of my best friend. He was their maintenance man and I had seen him around many times. Her entire apartment complex is getting together to see if they can help his family. He left behind a wife and two children.

This didn't have to happen. According to the news, there is no law here stating places of business are required to have a sprinkler system. So they did not. Just a way to save money because the law didn't "require" it. So sad!

I feel so sad for the families and friends of those killed. Even though I don't live in the area anymore, I still feel like it is my community.

As I was reading about the firefighters, I read that one was a quaterback for my highschool and he is only 1 year younger than me. I had to have been in school with him. My heartbrakes for the families. They are in my thoughts & prayers.
