I understand the need for an noise ordinance, but this is just taking it too far! They'd HATE my kids if we lived in a place like that.

Unbelievable! How much can noise can two little girls make anyway? I can't believe someone had the nerve to complain. How did that conversation go anyway? "Your kids are having too much fun and are laughing and squealing too loudly. Could you ask them to have fun silently?" I swear some people have nothing better to do than complain.

I listened to an audio tape of these girls on Yahoo. They weren't that loud. I had a pool growing up,always had friends over, my neighbors never complained. They should be at my MIL's house in the summer. There are a ton of kids and adults in the pool when she has a party! You should here the noise! NOONE complains. Ya just never know.

I listened to the tape as well and noticed a couple of things. One the clip wasn't long enough for me to decide if it really was that irritating and the other was it did sound like a lot more kids than two girls.

I don't know as I'm not there. Kids will be kids but if I was the parents of the girls I would attempt to quiet them down a bit and the parents did say that they didn't allow the girls in the pool after 9 p.m. And while I didn't really have a problem with the 5 year old, I kind of wonder if the 11 year old wasn't playing it up a bit more. Usually 11 year olds mellow out a bit with age and I'm wondering if all the media attention and drama bought on by this case isn't bringing more noise out? I don't know, just a guess.

I actually like to hear kids playing and having fun. At least it's a happy noise. Would they prefer a 4AM drunken couple fighting on the street outside? I listened to the tape and it wouldn't bother me.

I agree the tape wasn't long enough and what kind of time frame are the kids out? Is it acouple hours or all day long? I can see both sides. At least the kids are outside getting exercise, having fun and aren't vegging on the computer or watching tv. On the other hand if I had to listen to kids screaming in a pool from sunrise to sunset everyday during the summer I would probably get annoyed, especially since dh works nights and sleeps during the day. They say kids will be kids. Yes but look at it this way dogs bark-that's what they do. But how many of you would be annoyed listening to my dog bark all day long, every day? It also wasn't just one neighbor complaining, there was a group of them. I wouldn't want to listen to kids practicing drums all day either but that doesn't violate a noise ordinance either. I do think its stupid to take it to the courts, and it's too bad they can't just talk it out. I suppose if you don't like it move to an area where neighbors are bunched up so close like this neighborhood.

I say, Give me a break! The neighbors probably all have A/C and can't really hear the girls that much anyway. Even if they don't, it's not like the girls are out until all hours of the night. Our noise ordinance starts at 10:00 pm and lasts until 7:00 am. What would bother me more is the gosh darn old folks who think it's perfectly fine to mow their lawns at 7:00 on the dot. Grr!! Don't they know that some people like to sleep a little longer on the weekends?

I would rather live next to two squealing girls than FIVE DOGS!!! That is actually against city ordinance here - you can't have more than four dogs.

At my old house, my neighbor had four dogs and she "dog-sat" another 2 or 3, even though she would have these dogs for a couple of months at a time. They made it miserable for my kids to go outside - they were little yippy dogs and would NOT shut up. You know how most dogs (like my new neighbor's) bark at first, but once they meet us, they stop barking at us? These dogs were not like that at all. Even the non-stop barking - around the clock - and I did not file a complaint against her.

Some people just have too much time on their hands. If they want it quiet - they should move to one of those old-people retirement communities. But even there - those type of people will find something to complain about!!!

You know after reading the article I would like to know just how loud they really are, it says that several neighbors complained and that they had even gone to the parents and asked them to be quiet. I dont mind kids playing and having a good time but I wouldnt want to hear all that screaming all day long. I also know how kids can be at that age and wonder if that 11 year old isnt making it worse because of all the attention and maybe hamming it up because she knows it annoys the neighbors and causes a stir. I think that the kids should be able to have a good time and play but I also dont think that there is any reason for them to be screaming and yelling, you wouldnt take you kid into a store and let them scream and yell just because they were having a good time.
