Wrestler Benoit, wife and son found dead - Yahoo! News

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. - WWE wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife and son were found dead Monday and police said they were investigating the deaths as a homicide.

Lt. Tommy Pope of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department said the three were found at their home about 2:30 p.m., but refused to release details.

Pope said results of autopsies on Benoit, his wife Nancy, and 7-year-old son Daniel were expected Tuesday.

Benoit, 40, was a former world heavyweight champion, Intercontinental champion and held several tag-team titles over his career.

"WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family's relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy," the federation said in a statement on its Web site.

Benoit was scheduled to perform at the "Vengeance" pay-per-view event Sunday night in Houston, but was replaced at the last minute because of what announcer Jim Ross called "personal reasons."

Benoit, a Canadian native, maintained a home in metro Atlanta from the time he wrestled for the defunct World Championship Wrestling.

The WWE canceled its live "Monday Night RAW" card in Corpus Christi, Texas, and USA Network aired a three-hour tribute to Benoit in place of the scheduled wrestling telecast.

This is not all that far from here, sad to hear it happened and wonder if they will find out what really happened here.

My Dh was shocked. He's an avid wrestling fan. I had to explain to my two sons that this was real and not their fake storylines. What was bad was that Vince (the owner of wwe) had a story line that Monday was going to be a three hour tributte to him being supposedly dead after his Limo blew up. He came on before the show and said they wasn't going to do a tributte to his character but to Chris Benoit, his wife and son who was found dead in their home. I really wish they would quit the storylines where someone is dead. I got on the WWE website and it said that it was believed to be a double murder-suicide within the home. This is so sad.

As of right now, they are saying that they feel he killed his wife and son sometime early in the weekend and then himself on Sunday or early Monday.

This is so horrible, my dh loves to watch wrestling and they
had this story on at the first of the broadcast. We hadn't heard
anything about it. It's just so sad.

It was very upsetting to hear about this last night. I always say that you never mess with serious ilness or death, there is no reason to lie about these things and when you do you anger karma and God. I hate to say this but they both have a way of coming back to bite you right in the butt, either directly to you or to someone close to you.
I am seriously hoping that it was something environmental, like a carbon monoxide leak that took their lives. I pray that is was not a murder or murder suicide. My prayers are with the two living children and the rest of the family.

It is hard to belive.. I grew up watching wrestling... I live in Dallas, so I was a Von Erich fan back in the day.
I wonder what happens to these guys... Something must click in there minds or something. I wonder if all the head trama they have, which they have to have alot, causes them to go out of there mind.
I just wonder how they have died since they are reporting no gun was involved

I'm not into wrestling at all, but my boyfriend watches with his ds, so I have been kinda following along. I thought that they were supposed to have a long tribute to Vince last night and wondered about it this morning when I heard the news.

How sad.. and ironic that his storyline has been that he had died, but one of them really is gone now..

The tribute was for Benoit, but it was supposed to be a fake. They still the tribute from what I understand, but in this case, it was because he really had died.

ETA: I was wrong, the tribute WAS for McMahon but instead he came out and told them it wasn't real, and they did a tribute for Benoit instead.

My first thoughts when i heard the story and nobody was saying how they died, was murder/suicide. It could have been steriod use, guys who use too many steriods end up with "roid rages", other wrestling stars have been arrested in the past for voilence. Stone Cold Steven Austin comes to mind. He also could have been depressed about something, you just never know. I feel so bad for the families involved.Very sad.
