More on this ...

The news stories are saying the child was in an SUV which was parked right on the street. You have to wonder why it took 5 hours for someone walking by to notice him.

First, not many people walk these days. And even fewer people would be walking around in the middle of the day in that kind of heat.

Secondly, I don't know about you, but the rear windows on my mini-van are darkened. I'm betting the rear windows on the SUV were tinted pretty dark as well. This makes it easy to look out but not look in. Around here, the sun is pretty strong and I can't imagine how difficult life would be without darkened windows, but there is obviously a risk. Maybe we need to go back to using those 'Baby On Board' signs so people think to purposely look in car windows.

The 33-yr old step-grandma wasn't at work. She just parked the car and went inside to take a nap. Yeah, she was probably very tired (sarcasm).

OK at first I thought poor old grandma but now I am pissed. Poor baby!! I think they should lock these people in a car and let them feel what it feels like after 15 minutes! Breaks my heart!!

I was feeling sorry at first, too, when one of you mentioned it was a Grandma. Poor, but Neglectful, forgetful Grandma, not used to having a baby in the back. I had no idea she was only 33! That is bad.

I just saw an update on the news last night regarding this very sad story. The step-grandmother went into a friend's house and took a nap for five hours. The news did report that there were no drugs or alcohol in her system. Either way it is just heartbreaking for that little boy.
