Wow. I'm definitely ready for a woman president. I'm more surprised that there are a good number of women who aren't. Could it be a generation difference? I'm still under 30 (not for long, though!). Could it be that younger women - who grew up after Title IX took effect and reaped the benefits of the feminist movement rather than fought for womens' rights - that this next generation of women is more ready for a female president?

I was raised in a fair household - i.e. my brother and I were given equal rights and respect. We were taught that intellect and competence have nothing to do with gender. And they don't. Nor do leadership skills, diplomatic ability, or emotional stability (I may even argue here with momof4 that women are more emotionally mature and thus better able to cope, but that's beside the point.) Why wouldn't this all apply to the presidency?

For all my issues with Germans being 50 years behind when it comes to gender equality, they have managed to elect a woman as head of state. The French had a woman in the recent election and it was practically 50-50. Why not in the U.S.? Bring it on!!!

I agree that it depends on the woman. I would vote for a woman and if she is a mother that would be even better (we have a tendency to know when people are lying and so on!).

Those of you who replied that it depends on the woman... why? Doesn't it depend on the man running just as much? I guess I hope we're all voting based on perceived competence and ability. Aren't we? In that case, let the best candidate win - who cares about the gender?

(please, clue me in if you disagree. I obviously am missing something here.)

I do agree that it depends on the woman, man or whatever!! I guess we should just say that it depends on the person!! I would never vote for someone just because they are a woman, a man, a hispanic, a german, a Christian, a Jew, whatever!!!

I vote on their stand on the issues and how well I think they can get things done!!!

It's all about the issues to me. If a woman stands for the same issues as I do, she gets my vote. If it's a man that stands for them, he does.

That's exactly what I said above. That it depends on the woman the same way it depends on the man. I vote on issues not on gender. So I won't vote FOR a woman because she's a woman, just as I won't vote AGAINST a woman just because she's a woman.

And as for the age thing. Nope...I'm even older than happymom and more than ready for a woman (again....as I said in my previous post).

I may be ready for a woman president--but Hillary would not be my choice!

No way. Women are strong, and I think women can be a huge asset to a male president. We give a wonderful viewpoint, we are more diplomatic, but genetically, I don't think we are the best people to do it.

Think of yourself, your friends, your sisters, your mothers. Think of the mood swings. I'd hate to see a war started because it was "that time of the month" or the president got a hot flash. We get angry. We cry easily. We aren't even as strong physically.

I think women are MUCH better than men to be diplomats to foreign countries, but men are better suited to the presidency.

Oh, and if I ever did change my mind and vote for a woman, it would never be Hillary.
