jess, i wouldnt get too angry about it - there are many faiths believe that they're they only true religions and everyone else is dog crap.

my born again mil and her cronies told me that i am not a christian because i am not born again. so add that to the heap of examples of mortals deciding who is in and who is out.

just like the old joke goes...

"so a guy dies and meets peter at the pearly gates where he gets the grand tour. he sees all different doors with "lutheran, jewish, mormon, pentecostal" on them...he then passes a door that says "__________" (insert your faith of choice to joke about)

and as they pass the "_________" door, peter whispers to the man "shhh! be quiet, they think they're the only ones up here"

Jesus was a Baptist.
The perpetuity viewpoint holds that Baptist churches and practices have had perpetual existence since the time of Christ and His apostles. This view is theologically based on Matthew 16:18 "…and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it," as well as Jesus' commission and promise to be with His followers as they carried on his ministry, "even unto the end of the world."

The Baptist perpetuity view sees Baptists as separate from Catholicism and other religious denominations and considers, that since the Baptist movement predates the Catholic church, it is not part of the Protestant Reformation

I'm not sure if it's this way at all Catholic churches(other Catholics can clarify) but in my diocese anyone who works with children in *any* way (teachers, priests, janitors, you name it) must have a background check & we also are required to take attend special training sessions (Protecting God's Children). A lot of measures have been taken since the whole pedophile priest devastation. OP, sorry to get off topic

Yes, all US Catholic churches have the same rules - anyone who works with kids must go through a background check and attend special training sessions. It's something that the US Conference of Bishops passed at last year's conference.
