Pope: Jesus formed 'only one church' - Focus on the Vatican - MSNBC.com

To be completely honest, I was completely irate after reading this article. MY God taught acceptance and inclusion. In my Bible, Jesus was the one who supped with sinners. To think, that this MAN is under the impression he can decide who can call themselves Christians and make a statement that only the Catholic Church is a "real" church!

I posted this about a couple of weeks ago. As a Catholic, I was insulted, too, so I agree with you.

Here is the link and discussion that followed. It was interesting.

That is my whole problem with organized religion; in my opinion God wouldn't make certain people (who He created!) "special" and everyone else is going to hell. And I'm a Catholic, but I don't practice it, really. My kids go to Catholic school for the education, not the religion, although teaching morals is good. Recently, I don't know if I believe what I read in the Bible. There's a book out about the Roman conspiracy to invent Jesus and it makes quite a compelling case.

Not to start a "holy war" but I have nothing good to say about the Catholic church. How can a church that would not make thier priests who were proven to have molested children not have pay for that crime by going straight to jail like any other pediphile. No, instead they moved them repeatedly to other churches so they could pray on more children. UGH! Why don't they have to follow the same laws as anyone else?

I have never read anywhere that Jesus was catholic!

I'll have my own personal relationship with God and pray from home.

There are a lot of people in a lot of churches, who unfortunately will not be going to heaven because regardless of what religion you are, the relationship between you and God takes more than attending church every Sunday morning, whether you are Catholic, Baptist, Methodist, etc.

i agree with blessed, you can go to church all you want it doesn;t make you a good christian etc. its the kind of person you are in your everyday life that determines anything for you in the future. i am not religious at all, i consider myself to be an athiest, but i agree with the statement that alot of people that go to church regularly are not gonna make it to heaven, while alot of people are headed that way if its what they beleive in. i personally do not beleive in it so i won't be going there no matter how good of a person i am, i have different beleifs. going to church makes no difference, its just a place to worship your religion with other people.

Ok, I have to defend the Catholic Church. Yes, there are a lot of bad things in it, but there are a LOT of good things, too. Just as there are a lot of good/bad things in Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, etc. churches. It is PEOPLE who make the church not the actual heirarchy.

It really goes with your relationship with Jesus not what church you are in. But to say the ENTIRE Catholic Church is bad - that is the same thing that Pope Benedict has said that we are speaking out against. There is no real difference. We can all point out good and bad things from every church. JMO

I am LDS (Mormon). One of the reasons I chose to convert was LDS doesn't frown upon other religions. We have what is called the Articles of Faith, and it is basically a list of LDS basic beliefs. This one of them.

"We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may."

As far as I am concerned, it doesn't matter what road you take to Heaven, just as long as you get there!

In order to keep the peace, I won't get into all the reasons I think the Catholic Church has it all wrong, in just about every facet of their religion. I agree with blessed, it's what's in your heart, not what church or building you go to.

I think we can all agree that every religion is man made and, thus, has certain issues. That is why it is here and not in heaven. There is no perfect religion or denomination. Like Jennifer said, it is what is in your heart more than anything else. I do believe God has told me time and time again (a lot of the time I have fought this, too) that he wants me to stay in the Catholic Church. There is good in it, too.

But, I think my original post weeks ago was to point out that Benedict does not speak for all Catholics. I do not agree with him on this matter.
