It has been another long night- we did find them...BIL and SIL are in very bad condition. The baby has a few bumps and bruises, but she was lucky! They'll be sending the baby home tomorrow.
BIL had server lower back trauma and his spinal cord was badly injured. He's had two surgeries. He has several stitches on his neck, arms and legs. He cannot feel his legs and the Dr. said that the chances of walking again are very slim.
His wife had head trauma, swelling in the brain and when she came in on a stretcher she had a chunck of metal sticking out of her stomache, so they did surgery to remove the tension in her skull and fixed a hole in her stomache and many stitches as well (from broken glass). She was unconsious until 7am this morning. She can't even remember what happened and hasn't said much. We are surprised because she hasn't asked about her little girl or her husband. We are wondering if there isn't some temparary memory loss. Her parents are with her.
My MIL and FIL are with my brother in law- who may have to have one more surgery today or tomorrow. They have to do a little bit each time they go in because of the swelling and the risk of him bleeding out.
At this point I don't know how everything is going to work, but my sister in law and brother said they'd take the baby until we figured out what to do. It will be a while before BIL and his wife get out of the hospital. And when they do it will be difficult even then! BIL may not ever walk again- that means a huge change in their lifestyle as they are both adventurous people who love to stay active. MIL and FIL haven't even offered to take the baby- which is a good thing anyways, obviously they don't have a CLUE when it comes to babies. BIL's wifes parents aren't in good condition either- they're older and probably couldn't handle a baby (even though they wish they could) We just cannot believe that there have been two babies in our family that temporarily been "misplaced" and with out their parents...ALL IN 1 month of eachother! DH's sister and her husband died in that terrible car accident on July 1st. The bridge collapsed on August 1. What are the chances that something like this happens EXACTLY a month apart? DH's family (brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins) feel like they are being ripped to shreds.
I am actually going to head over to BIL's house to pick a few things up for the baby then DH and I are going to the children's hospital to check up on her. I hate the thought of her having to be alone over there. She's so little and should never have to be alone at a time like this. my sister and I are taking turns sitting with her and DH and my brother have the kids today. My girls know something's up and they're worried.
