We live in what I consider a small town. I grew up here and graduated from this school myself. What happened today was scary and aggravating to say the least. Monday we had a bomb threat wrote on the Junior High bathroom wall that was painted over. We had no clue but as the paper reports this happened on Monday. Then they found another threat posted I think on a locker. Anyways this morning they had police and everything checking it out. Our kids are still at school by the way. Finally word gets out and people started picking up their kids. We live out in the country and not directly in town so we did not really know what had happened. My sister picked her daughter up from the Junior high and tried to call me from there to inform me what was going on but I didn't hear the phone at the other end of the house. She was under the impression that they were sending the kids home. Well later I seen the call on our caller ID so my dh called to see if the kids were alright. We still do not know about the bomb threat by the way. They told him at that number to call the Elementary because that's where our kids were at. Then we call that number and they tell us that they didn't call and if it was very important that they would call back. Can you believe they did not inform us of the bomb threat? They actually told the kids if they left early it would be counted against them. Well my kids come home with a letter telling us that there will be no school for the remainder of the week due to the bomb threat. Almost all of the kids were picked up early this morning. I had no clue what was going on even after dh calling the principal's office. My dh was aggravated because he said they were rude to him on the phone so just wait until he comes home from work tonight and I tell him what was going on and how they could of at least informed us of it. To think something could of happened to my two boys ... ... ... well I really don't want to think about it.

We live in Doniphan Missouri. After all of this I am seriously considering homeschooling my two boys. They really do well in school and are always on the honor roll. The generally love going to school and have alot of friends so I know that they may not even like to be home schooled. I am just afraid for their safety with bomb threats and even school shootings. It's all too scary.

We've had them over the years here in town too. They usually stop whenever a big reward is offered for info leading to the guilty party. You know teens love money, so they are always catching the kids who have done it. Most of the time it's some bored kid who just wants to get out of class.
Last bomb threat they had, they made the whole building of students stand outside on the track about 15-20 feet behind the huge glass wall of the lunch room....yeah really smart idea, if the school blows up, guess where all that glass is going to go?!
Sounds like your school district needs to come up with a good diseaster plan or "bomb drill" to ensure things run more smoothly.

Heck, bomb threats at school have been going on forever I remember them back from jr high (and I am OLD!) Not saying you should not worry about it, but Country Mouse is right. 99%of the time is is some kid who wants out of school and does not think he would get caught.

I'm not trying to be rude or anything but whether or not this is for real or a kid playing a stupid prank I would at least like to be informed and make the decision to either pick up my kids or leave them there. When my dh called them to find out why the school's number was on our caller ID they should of told us what was going on.

Absolutely, i agree, and yes, you have a right to be upset. If i were you i would write a letter to the school districts administrator and the editor of your town's newspaper and ask why your school district doesn't have a better plan in place for emergencies like this.

Princess1 I totally understand where you are comming from.
I live in Ellsinore and my kids attend East Carter. I am sure you have been keeping up with us in the news. It is the most sickest fealing you cant have. I know from our Gun Threat last week the whole town is going crazy and the Teachers are trying to keep the kids calm and our superintendent, he ran away for the day. And we went back to shcool the next day with a full time armed guard. There is several people here really thinking about home schooling. At least you would know your kid is safe.

It was really nice to see that it wasn't are town hitting the news again!( please don't take this wrong)

We had one last year. Our district sends information home to the parents via a recorded phone message that goes out district wide. The sent the call the night before and said that they had the situation handled and we should send our kids to school. Of course, most of us did not. I was very thankful that they kept us informed and gave us the opportunity to do what was best for our kids.

Definatly write a letter to the superintendent and the school board and tell them they NEED to draft a policy ASAP to make sure the parents are informed of ANY school threats. It should be your choice whether your kids are in school if there is any danger, not there's.

I am going to post the protocal that Glenn Beck had on his website for such emergencies.

Big hugs, I know you were very scared by this. We all are.
