Is anyone's family here being affected by the UAW strike? Just curious...I don't know anyone personally who is striking, but I know a lot of people who have been in the (failing) GM industry here in MI.

My dad is retired GM - he has serious health problems, from an accident at the factory in the 80's. The changes in pensions and health insurance for retirees directly affects him. I didn't talk to him today - I figure I'd give him a couple days to cool down hopefully, don't want him to have another stroke getting worked up talking about it.

No I don't know off anyone who works as a union worker at GM but I know if this keeps up for long tons of people in my town will be laid off since most of the industry in this town is suppliers. My FIL worked for Delphi but has GM benefits since he retired before they became a separate company.

Yeah the retirees have alot to be concerned with depending on how the talks go which (since they are striking) doesn't seem to be to well. Previously dh who works for Ford thought it may be them striking and then I would just have to work FT but My bil works for American Axle and they supply parts to GM so it's possible he will be laid off in the coming weeks.

My best friend's dad is retired from GM (I think he is retired anyway). I haven't talked to her yet. I'm going to call her tonight to see how he is doing.
