Default Does the U.S. debt/weakened dollar worry you?

I was just curious to see how some of you feel about the weakened U.S. economy? Has anyone been affected personally by this?

Well, I'm in Canada, and it worries me. If the US coughs, Canada catches a cold too.

I am concerned as well. To some degree, yes, it does affect Canada, as well as the rest of the world for that matter. However, our Canadian dollar has been doing quite well despite the lowering value of the U.S. dollar. Going across the border to shop lately has been a bargain.
By asking this, I truly do not wish to start a "who's country is better" tit for tat. I really want to hear if this is affecting anyone....in the U.S.?

Well, it probably affects me and I do not know it. But, yes, it concerns me. A strong dollar is definitely better for our economy.

The short answer is NO. I feel as economically safe as I have before. I guess I didn't know we were weakened.

I live about 30 miles from the border and it does ruin our trips to the Creston Bakery! Truthfully it doesn't change too much for us. The things I use to buy out of Canada, plants are no longer allowed to be brought across into the U.S. We still travel up there for our peaches but that is just because they are so dang good! I'm willing to pay extra. As for apples, well, I'll probably just find those down here. I haven't gotten my son's birth certificate yet and they won't let him across the border -- or if they did the U.S. probably wouldn't let us back in!

I do wish they would stop shipping cattle down here though -- but that is a whole other issue of mine!

It really worries my DH and that worries me. He has lived thru 4 recessions in the UK one of which was really really bad, and he sees all the same trends coming on here. He thinks it might be as bad as the '89 crash... I don't know too much as I was only 9 at the time lol

It def, hurts us when we exchange dollars for english pounds that is for sure.

Weakened dollars compare to euros worries me a lot. The fact that we are in Germany right now. Just today I paid our 115.56 euros worth of phone/internet bill and it came to $168 Who wouldn't be mad the dollar is going down everyday and I don't see any relief in the future. From what I heard in the news is going to keep going down until maybe next year but nobody really knows exactly when.

Very much! We are on the fence whether or not we should take out a home equity loan next year to do some things to the house. With all that's going on I'm kind of afraid to do anything.

Living and working in the states, no, it does not bother me. It hurts those Americans who live/work/travel to Europe and other countries. In fact, a weak dollar sometimes has the unitended consequence of bring tourists over who will spend their money and get a better deal with a weakened dollar.

I do know that it affects those in Canada the most, since Americans are less likely to cross the border to do some shopping, since their US $ isn't worth as much as it was a year ago.
