All I can say is Geez. My mom respected them so much growing up. As one commenter put: Smells like PTL.

Oral Roberts' son and daughter-in-law accused of improprieties at evangelical university

OK, nothing comes to mind. What does PTL stand for?

That was Jim Bakker's group in the 80s. It is in reference to the Jim and Tammy Faye scandal.

That is sad.

PTL stands for "praise the Lord" or in the Bakkers' case "pass the loot"

Because of my parents, I have a HUGE problem with these kinds of "institutions" to begin with. My dad was sending Oral Roberts and Jim Bakker money back in the 80's, and convinced me to send all of my babysitting money as well. All in the name of "God".

I am now so cynical to that type of world. I try to keep my personal beliefs just that, personal. I can't stand the "God said give me your money" attitudes that some of these televangelists "preach". IMHO, if it was God's work, they'd be doing it for free.

Ok - I'm from Tulsa! My dad used to work for Oral Roberts - doing something to put his shows on TV. He sat in a little room with a ton of tvs all over the wall. I remember going to work with him sometimes and getting to push all the buttons! (Lots of fun for me)!

Both my older sisters went to ORU! I have other friends that have gone there too!

As far as I know we never sent money in - and I always thought his talk with God seemed shady! I just couldn't imagine God threatening him! Hmm...

I sent this on to my family - all I can say is WOW!!!

How sad what money can do to people. It sounds like the son and daughter in law's priorities changed quite a bit from the original purpose of the university.

That is sad..

Folks like this, and institutions that keep telling folks to send in all their money, while they live a very wealthy lifestyle off of that money, is a huge turnoff to religion for many of us non-religious. It just makes makes ALL the religions seem like a scam when so many of the "big names" get caught up in scandal.

I've never trusted any of those televangelists. I don't know why people keep sending money to people like this? Didn't they learn anything from the Jim and Tammy Faye Baker years?
I can still remember Ernest Angley (sp?) with his fake hair and flashy rings, claiming to be a faith healer........i used to do impressions of him that would have my mother in tears from laughing so hard. He would slap people on the forehead and scream something, and they would faint. Sometimes that was more entertaining than cartoons. lol

Well they certainly will have a lot to answer for if they ever get to the pearly gates. You'd think they'd have more fear of the afterlife. But as the bible said it, the first will be last and the last will be first. God is compassionate, but also just. Their actions are pretty hard to defend.

Anyway, I do feel for the people that have given money. Personally though, I can't imagine giving hard earned money to a televangelist! I guess some people are desperate.
