Actually, if you take depo for more than 2 years it can cause a permanent risk for osteoporosis. This means that even after you stop getting it you will still retain the same risk. I know this is a difficult situation. My point about girls dealing with it had more to do with me wondering how girls with disabilities have -been- dealing with it. I'm not a parent in that situation so I have no idea if they ever get over being scared or not. I can only guess that some might. However, I definately don't have the answer on this one. It's too tough and has too many personal factors for me to say anything either way.

I agree just what I would say. I would also consider her level of disability as well...because CP is not a genetic disorder but due to a lack of oxygen during delivery or some point during the pregnancy.

I didn't read the entire story of everyone's responses, but I remember hearing about a story where the parents were doing something to prevent a severely disabled child from growing. It sounded severe on the surface, but after seeing their story on TV I could understand their reasoning. It would be incredibly hard to parent a child with such severe disabilities. As an outsider looking in, I feel like it's impossible to judge or know what it would be like to walk in their shoes.

So this girl is suppose to understand the physical shock of the menopause that comes with these procedures? Or are they going to put her through the hormone therapy? If no hormone therapy, it will likely shorten her lifespan b/c they body runs on these hormones and it can affect every aspect of your body and it will be left unsupported. There is a reason adult women don't want hysterectomies unless they have to have them, menopause is rough, especially when your body isn't ready for it. Plus, there are issues like pelvic floor support and the like.

Sure they could leave the ovaries and the body "should" reabsorb the eggs without problems but alot of women who are left with ovaries in tact have to eventually get those removed too b/c the "should" didn't quite pan out...those parts go together. They may very well be trading one minute problem for a larger one. Poor girl!

Not being in this situation, it's hard to say. I do hope the mother is making decisions based on what she would want for herself. This does bring some major questions about in the human rights arena.
