Oh no! You've only seen the "country" aspect so the stereotypes live on! lol The state has many beautiful aspects and I'm sure you saw some great sights. Do you remember what part/town it was?

I'm not stereotyping! I was just talking about my family. I'm a city girl but I've spent plenty of time in the country. I've even shoveled manure. Don't recall where in Maine. My one cousin who is still up there is in Rockville or Rockport...somewhere south of Quebec but N. of Bangor, so it could have been in that general area.

I'm not against birth control being available to those who need it and actively seek it out; but there should be parental consent with the pill/patch. I guess I would rather see those who are sexually active using some form of bc than none at all.

I think there is one very important piece you are all missing. Not all girls are having sex because they want to. Many of you know that I was sexually abused as a CHILD. When I realized I could get pregnant I went to the school clinic and got on BC pills. Obviously if I felt I could go to another adult I would have. I couldn't even tell you how long it happened. I do know I was probably around the age of 5-14. I didn't even tell the clinic nurses the truth. I told them I was sexually active not that I was being sexually abused. There is so much more to this topic than girls having sex, parents teaching morality, etc. I am all for girls having access to sex education and sex education to me includes condoms and other forms of birth control.
AND as a final note that is sure to get some of you mad. I couldn't begin to count how many times I heard parents of boys say, "I'm so glad I don't have to worry about that." If they did worry about it we could eliminate one segment of this problem.

No no no. I was only speaking in jest. I didn't think you were seriously stereotyping and I'm not (and was not) upset by any of your comments. I just think it's funny, A) the stereotypes that people think of when they think of my state and B) that even some people who have visited have only visited the rural areas so those stereotypes still seem accurate to them as well.
