I can't believe this guy said this. Even if you disagree with the war I can't imagine saying that anyone is "amused" by people getting their heads blown off. Someone needs to slap this guy silly. How disrespectful to the troops to imply they're over there for someone's "amusement". So what do you think about these comments (NOT THE WAR, BUT THESE COMMENTS).

WASHINGTON (Oct. 18) - A House Democrat accused Republicans Thursday of sending troops to Iraq to "get their heads blown off for the president's amusement."

I couldn't access the article, just the first line in your post. Of course that's a horrible thing to say and clearly, untrue. I disagree with the war and disagree with Bush on just about everything, but I'm sure this isn't amusing to him in any way. It's comments like this from Democrats that make it so easy for people to say that Democrats don't support the troops. Why, oh why, do they say things like this?

Well, since I can't see the article or know what the context was, I can't comment on it. Of course Republicans say stupid things all the time as well. Neither party holds the patent on that.

The article was about how he said this. He said it after the president vetoed the child health bill that had been proposed. But regardless of why he said it, or regardless what context it's in, it was an incredibly stupid & insensitive thing to say. I agree with you daymom on how things like this make people think democrats don't support the troops. It will be interesting to see if the other democrats rally around this guy or insist he apologize.

What I meant by context is that we don't know if that is the full quote, or if he was even quoted correctly. I still can't find a link to that article. I agree, it's a stupid thing to say. I can't stand Bush but even I don't think he's doing this for his own amusement. He's not a heartless sadist. But I don't even know if this democrat was correctly quoted as I can't find an article on it or a video link or anything.

Yeah - I just found it. He also added this:

Stark later issued a statement saying, "I have nothing but respect for our brave men and women in uniform and wish them the very best,” said Stark. “But I respect neither the Commander-in-Chief who keeps them in harms way nor the chickenhawks in Congress who vote to deny children health care."

I don't agree 100% with Bush, BUT I do support him as the President of the United States, and I support the troops 100%.

What that man said, is completely uncalled for. And he should have to apologize. Period.

I don't know that man but I just watched the link. He appeared very upset about the health care loss and we all say stupid things when we're mad. I don't think either party has a patent on saying stupid things!

It doesn't matter what he added. What he said was horrible!! Bottom line. He wouldn't have said it if he didn't believe it, whatever he says after it.
