Plainfield mother, 19, charged in newborn's death in dorm | IndyStar.com

This girl is from a small town in IN but is going to a college in Louisville KY. She hid her pregnancy even playing in a golf tournament a few wks ago. She delivered the baby and it drowned in the toilet then she tried to hide it in a trashbag. Part of me feels sorry for this girl who was pregnant, scared, didn't know what to do, and has now totally ruined her life. I think they're charging her with murder of the baby. But of course there's another part of me that wants to slap her silly for killing a full term baby. KY is even one of the states where you can leave a baby no questions asked. UGH....what do you think???

There are no excuses for killing a baby.

Same thing happened here over the summer. Michigan girl (went to all girl catholic school) was away at college - also an athlete who was participating in her sport- I think volleyball - right up until delivery. Hid the pregnancy. Delivered it & killed the baby. Michigan is also a state where you can leave a baby at a hospital or police station no questions asked. She was out of state at school tho, so I don't know about that state. Just awful. I feel for her parents - they must have been stunned.

This girl went to a college an hour from me where a good friend of mine goes. Just so sad that these girls can't tell anyone and either take the responsibilty or give up for adoption to someone whom will love it. Just very sad.

I think our best response when something like this happens is do pray for our local Pregnancy Crisis Centers and donate to them in whatever way we can. I have a 9 year old daughter today because I went to one....mostly for the free pregnancy test....but God knew I would meet a wonder counselor there who help me think through the situation and realize that it wasn't the end of my world and that when I thought about it, I realized that I knew my family would support me in whatever came my way. I have seen at least 4 billboards in my area letting people know where they can call if they find themselves in the same situation. I know they don't rent them for free....so send money when you can to help your local pregnancy crisis centers so they can get the word out to girls!

I hate hearing things like this!!

I don't for one minute feel sorry for the moms -
I think it is Pure selfishness that they won't let ANYONE know about there pregnancy. And It has got to be the evilest of evils to kill your own baby. - I can't think of anything worse. Whether you are 15 or 35 - I just can't fathom it.

I think they know exactly what they could or should do too while they are pregnant.

I don't think its a Matter of them not knowing where to go for help either-
I think they don't want to deal with it and Hope it goes away

Enough of my Ranting ....
I have been there...
Thats why I am then 34 Yr. Old mom of a 17 Yr.Old - Definitely unplanned definitely NOT something I wanted my parents of friends to know!! - and We live in a rural town- Still I knew not to have her in a toilet and try to get rid of her!
There is help everywhere.

So sad

I have never been in such a position, but I do think that in some families the parents put so much emphasis on NOT getting pregnant at a young age that when it happens the girl is too scared to think about it rationally. It is hard because as a mother, you don't want to encourage your kids to get pregnant (obviously) but daughters still need to know that there IS support and help if they need it!!!

It is so sad that this girl did what she did to that poor little child. It is unfortunate that she did not feel she could turn to anyone for help!!

I can't say I pity her. She was only a little younger than I was when I became pregnant. She's legally an adult and old enough to know that sex=babies. She had other options and choose to act in an immature manner. There are counselors at college who can help with this. I actively searched for help & had my own issues due to depression. However, I never dumped my baby in a toilet or even wanted to. Something is wrong if someone would think that way. She should be locked up, maybe not in prison, but she needs some sort of serious therapy. I can't pity her since my situation was difficult too. If you're old enough to have a baby then you're old enough to grow up.
