Literature is part of what changes civilization. Leave it alone!
I can see censoring it if it wasn't an integral part of the book, like the word f**k, or something like that, but this is part of the story, and it is part of a movement of change.

Claire, I think it's time you ran for mayor in your town.

Hey, I already told Claire she should run for office.

Actually I worked in Monroeville today ( I am there once a week).

The people of Monroeville are proud of To Kill a Mockingbird.
It is one of the town's "claim to fame" and I have never
heard a protest about anything in the book. Like I said,
they are proud of their town being a part of such a great
work of literature.

I agree with everyone, I just had to add that everyone has read the book (well most people that would be attending the play anyway) so what is the point of censoring in the first place? It will just create more controversy that isn't needed. I don't think we should try to dumb down history, we handicap our children when we do so.

How come this doesn't surprise me? If any of the people actually read the book they would be clued in. Let's just say that I'm all for banned books as well. I had to clarify that by "people" I meant the people that want the word out - not any of the previous posters since I totally agree.

Yeah, you can't gloss over history & pretend it never happened. The only thing that ever achieves is ignorance. Leave it as is I'd say. Taking it out seems much more disrespectful.
