According to the article, it's actually HIV - not full-blown AIDS. Sad that the tests for that aren't 100% but, still, if these folks were at the top of the transplant list, they needed the organs. And people can live a LONG time HIV positive now. My cousin has had it for at least 15 years & he's doing very well. Nothing is 100% I guess.

Transplant patients are already immunosuppressed so I wonder if their progression from HIV to AIDS will be quicker than in a non-immunosuppressed patient.

It's sad that mistakes like this happen. On the flip side I agree with Calimari that they might have died already if they hadn't had the transplant.

Thats sad!! They did the right things and got the donor tested it just shows things are not full proof!!
