Wait a second ... if I'm late on my taxes, I get fined. Somehow I don't think this is going to hold true for the federal government.

Niiiiiice. I think with what I worked this year, we may be affected based on the blurb at the bottom.

Last year, I got my little refund back promptly, but DH's was months late. He did get interest on it because it was late. I'm wondering if they would still have to pay interest to those who's refunds were not given in a timely manner (I'm not sure how it works, time wise, but just as you would have to pay interest if you dispute something, they have to pay interest if they screw up and are late paying).

You are right..this IS BS! And Mel is right - we HAVE to file on time.

You know what chaps me on this? Our tax return is for the previous year, right? So it'll be fore 2007. So, WHY are they allowed to change the tax laws effective on the previous year's taxes? Why would any change affect our current returns, and not only returns from 2008 on? Clinton did that, and it really got me. That would also prevent these last minute delays.

Put the screws to us again. Something needs to get done. If it's that complicated, just don't do it. It's bad enough that I can't adjust my withholding so that I don't get a return, i could use that money during the year instead, but your going to hold it up. What about if I held up paying my taxes, you'd be at my front door, with penalties, and fines and even jail time. Give us our money we deserve and get some people in there that know what the heck they are doing. They are making a mess out of this country. God, I wonder why our world is the way it is, never trust our government - Take away our SS we've paid into, hold up our returns, what's next. I bet though if it was the president's salary or government officials, it would have been passed by now.

I DON'T TRUST THIS GOVERNMENT AT ALL. Heck if I could put the screws to them I would!!!

I want to pay off my van with this year's return. I'm sure they will get it fixed in time, they don't want a major pandemonium on their hands.

The only reason we get "refunds" is because we allow our government to take more than it's fair share from our paychecks....

(I personally had withholdings set so I generally got a few bucks from the feds, and sent a few to the state. With our little tax deduction coming, DH is going to be upping his dependent number so we may have more in the checks, less money for the gov't to make interest on us. I'd rather use our money, not let the gov't waste it like they do so well.)
