Geraldine Ferraro defends remarks about Obama - Yahoo! News

What do you think of what she said? Is she right or wrong?

I don't know. Great answer, I know. I do worry that the Democratic party decision is becoming more of a race issue and I hate to see that happen as well. I think any time you are picking because of sex or color that you're not looking at the person as a whole.

I think I'm learning, the older I become and the more I'm involved in politics, is that maybe ignorance is bliss!

I tend to agree with her comments. I think American are so disillusioned with the state of things they way they are, they're looking for someone the polar opposite of Pres. Bush. I think Obama pretty much fits that bill: he's a Democrat, he's not from a family entrenched in politics, he's extremely charismatic, plus - he's black.

I don't think her comments were racist - I get what she was going for - but I don't think he is where he is because of his race. I noticed him when he gave his speech at the democratic convention in 2004. At that moment, I knew he would be our first black president. It was what he SAID - the speech - the conviction - the message - mixed in with charisma. I think if a white male candidate came in with the same package, he would have done fine.

I agree with what she said, but I'm surprised that she wasn't smart enough to know that the Democrats weren't going to like her comments. I mean realistically if the guy was some white guy who'd been in the senate for a couple of years with no major legislative bills coming from him, no one would be thinking about his twice for president. He's very charismatic I admit, but I certainly think his race is part of his allure.

I think that anything different from where we are today is refreshing and needed. Have that a republican or democrat. I do not believe he is only where he is because he is black. I actually find that pretty insulting to the voters so far, as if they are not making sound and educated decisions on their own. I tend to vote democratically but not because I am a democrat. I try to find the best candidate regardless of what party they are affiliated with. My cousin is a police officer in New Hampshire and he had worked a few details when Obama was there. My cousin is a card carrying Republican and would almost never vote a democrat into office. He was blown away with what Obama spoke about and how he seemed to genuinely connect with people. That there has nothing to do with race, just his ability to connect and convey his ideas in a well understood manner. It sounds as if I am voting or a supporter of Obama, I still do not know who I am leaning toward. I try to see all the positives of all the candidates.

Its to bad that race, sex or religion comes into play when deciding who is most qualified an able to run this country.

Absolutely!

I typically lean Republican but I have to say that it is a good move for the Democrats to have their top two candidates a black man and a woman. With the country disillusioned about Republicans, it is highly likely that the Democrats will make history.

Personally, I agree with what she said. I don't think she was trying to be negative or anything, I think she was just stating things the way she saw them. It is really a shame that some have considered her remark racist as I really do not think that is how she intended it. I think she was just stating that in this day of political correctness, some people are more drawn to a black candidate. I do feel that had Obama been white and given his lack of experience, his campaign would have been over by now. I am not saying he isn't a viable candidate, I am just saying that I do believe that his race has helped him get this far. JMO
