I agree. I think you'd have to search hard to find a reason to dislike him.

How many go on line and look at the mission statement? I bet it dawns on few.
Most churches that i have attended usually have the mission statement in their bulletin. Very easy to access when you first attend the church. Also i'm pretty sure most Christians know that churches have mission statements. It's not something that you have to really search for.

Obama's story that he never once heard his preacher trash whites and America in hundreds of sermons sounds like Bill Clinton claiming he never inhaled while smoking dope.

Okay...I'm watching a special on Nightline tonight about this right now, and they're showing the pastor and the congregation and I don't see a single white person in the church. So I don't know who said it was mostly white, but it obviously is wrong. And MAN...this guy is a nut and raving about rich white people, and saying "God Dam* America, Not God Bless America". UGH....

It was a quote from somebody saying that the church was mostly white. I'm glad to hear that you're actually saying that ... I was beginning to wonder about what type of white person would attend a church where the pastor pretty much bad mouthed them!

I've known a LOT of pastors over the years. My dad is one and we had lots of pastor friends and my dh works for a church now - 12 pastors on staff. Most pastors I know do not talk about political issues in the general "public" of their congregation - the point with that is that "why play with fire" for lack of a better phrase - political issues can be pretty divisive.

So if that is true with this pastor - if he says all this divisive stuff from the platform what is he saying behind closed doors to his closest confidants or those that consider him a close mentor .... like Obama?

I meant Jerry Falwell, not Billy Graham. My bad on that one.

I just spent my lunch hour googling a variety of churches in different communities - different faiths. Out of about 30 web sites, only 1 church had a mission statement - the Indian Christian Church. The only one who listed a Business Plan was a Baptist Church. I thought that was sort of different as it never occurred to me that a church would have a business plan.

Personally I'm not judging the church by their mission statement, I'm judging it by the videotapes that SHOW the minister standing in front of the congregation blasting white people and America and all the congregations murmuring, "Yeah...that's right".
