Aliadam -- did you ever find that article that you were mentioning?
No, I had saved a couple yesterday because I was going to post them in the thread, but then didn't and I thought it was one of those. But it wasn't. I can still try to find it but after 24 hours they'll have up new ones. But I'll still see.

Well I just searched for 45 mins and can't find it....sorry. There's SOOOOO much on the internet about it. I tried searching under black ministers and editorial and Obama's minister etc but couldn't find it. Maybe someone better at searching than me can.

Really? I disagree. There is no one church that will meet the individual beliefs of a very large group of people (one of the reasons the U.S. has so many churches and denominations, etc.)

I am Catholic. And I use birth control. And I am pro-choice. And I believe that women should be able to be priests. And I don't even believe I need confession. But I still attend Catholic church because it meets a majority of my spiritual needs and I am comfortable there. No reason Obama can't attend a church for many other reasons and still be capable of INDEPENDENT THOUGHT. I hope that we can all differentiate between our own thoughts and beliefs and those of our pastors.

I watched the entirety of his response speech on YouTube last night, and I was impressed. The man is intelligent, eloquent, and has some impressive dreams and goals for our country. Young and inexperienced, too. But I have to say that after watching his speech I was more swayed toward voting for him than before.

I'm shocked that so many people would disregard the man because of his pastor's beliefs. You are just letting the media (and a Clinton or McCain smear campaign) manipulate you - don't!!!

P.S. WHY oh WHY is a man who is half white and half black always called a BLACK man? He's just as much a white man.

Read the book "The Time of our Singing" by Richard Powers. It's absolutely beautiful, and it opened my eyes on issues of race. I had no idea what it felt like to be even "just one drop" black - perhaps as a result of reading it I am unsurprised and unfazed by the pastor's comments and found Obama's response so fitting.

Good question. I have wondered the same thing. I would love to hear Obama's response as he always describes himself as black when it suits his purposes.

So i feel that yes he agrees with it and now he's just trying to appease the people.

I do think it's a double standard. No white Presidential hopeful would get away with this.

I say that because it took SO LONG for my dh and I to find a church we both found comfortable in and believe in its mission. I know how hard that journey is. So to think that a man just attends church but doesn't believe in the mission to me, is uncredible.

Have any of you researched some of the comments from John McCains "spiritual advisor?" He's pretty out there as well, but no one seems to be making issue of it. *shrug*

Tiger Woods is black, white and asian. He refers to himself by some made up combo word like "caublasian" or something like that. But to the media and white folks, he's black. Obama has talked many times that he is mixed race, but the media and the people still call him "first black" whatever.
