When a baby is destined to die - Kids and parenting - MSNBC.com

I wasn't going to post this because it's so sad but feel their story needs to be told. Be prepared w/Kleenex. I still can't stop my tears and just need to hold my children.

This is SO sad. I can't imagine the pain these families must go through knowing their child will die.

And as for the Doctor who told the one mother that she might as well not come back to her appointments since the baby would die anyway - that is just HORRIBLE!

This story really does make you thankful for what you have - I feel terrible for what these families have had to go through!

This is why I do what I do! I am on the board of directors for a small nonprofit in oregon called A Butterfly's Touch. We provide memory boxes for some of our local hospitals to be used cases such as these. We also have the boxes available for anyone who finds us on the web and feels like they need one because they have been told their baby has little chance of surviving. To learn more about us go to: A Butterfly's Touch - Home

I was and am one of those moms. My twins died at 2 and 15 days old and we spent every possible moment creating as many memories as we could with them. I am grateful for the pictures and everything else that touched their tiny bodies because it is all I have of them.

I have worked with so many parents since then. Some have more momentos and some have very little. The wonderful organization, Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep, pairs with professional photographers that come in at the family's request and take the most amazing pictures. They are in great need of more photographers to be available when families ask for them. If you know a professional photographer in your area, give them the website: Now I lay Me Down To Sleep - ~Infant Bereavement Photography~. What an incredible gift to these families.

I wish NILMDTS had been active when our boys died but am so glad that others are given that opportunity. Those pictures and the memories that we created with them, holding them, diapering, bathing and parenting them, are what we carry with us now.

That's a lovely thing that you do. What an awful
thing for people to go through. It's good that there
are people that think of them and help them.
