HI
I have really been given some thought to the children from the pologamist compound in tx.

I heard in the news this morning that if the state of tx takes custody of them the sibiling more than likely wont be able to stay together because most of them have like 5 siblings

I do not appove of the pologamist lifestyle at all ..esp young girls marrying older men and having so many children

But at the same time my hearts go out to the children who are seperated from their moms (who i believe love them with all their heart) and may have to placed in foster care.

What do you think? I would love for the moms to promise to leave the compond and raise their children on their own but i know that probably wont happen because it is such a deeply held religous belief.

I guess i dont know what should happen to the children.

I live in Texas and on our local news they said the mom's with children under the age of 5 were given the opportunity to stay with their children and mom's with older children were given the opportunity to stay nearby in a safe house and have daily visits with their children but only 6 mom's stayed the rest went back to the compound. Our local news is also saying that almost every young girl over the age of 13 has at least one child and many are pregnant now.

It's a horrible situation all around but there are lots of families split up all over the place because the parents can't care for them (and very often the mother loves them but just does not have the parental skills to care for them). I do wish more of the moms would leave. Pair them up w/ mainstream mormon families or something, to help them adjust to life on the outside but with the familiar tenets of their faith.

I cannot imagine having my children taken from me. I have not been brain washed but I couldn't leave my children for any reason. It is such a sad situation.

It is a horrible thing and I believe that Texas is doing the best they can. I can't imagine leaving my children with a foster family while returning to my compound especially if they were given a choice.

This is such a terrible situation, at times it's just unthinkable that this stuff is happening here, but reality is, it is. Myself, I could never leave my children behind.

I watched 3 of the ladies and the lawyer yesterday on the Today show!

I honestly believe that they have been "brainwashed" at an early age.

They know no other way of life, most of these woman were born and raised this way all of their lifes.

While I do believe that some of the kids are being abused as far as being made to marry and have sex at an early age, this is what they were brought up to belive, and that is all that they know. And their mothers who should protect them, probably were married at the same young age.

I honestly think that the state did right by steping in and trying to protect these children.

At lot of people do things in the name of religon, but that doesn't make it right.

It's like watching brainwashed stepford pioneer wives on tv. The mothers were given the opportunity to stay with their younger kids and many chose to return so what kind of mothers are they. Keep in mind these adults think we are the devil and evil so they just left them and went back to the compound. What kind of thinking is that?

I couldn't be a journalist because not a one of them answers any questions on tv in regards to the abuse and marrying off 14 year olds to be baby factories. They say things like "We love our children" blah blah blah. ANSWER THE QUESTION. They say no one is forced into marriage, but it's all these teenagers know. The Bible has been spoon fed to them since birth and they don't know they have other choices. Craziness in the name of religion should not be tolerated. Child molestation is just that, I don't care what you claim in the name of religion.

Never mind that completely sheltering these girls from the outside world & not giving them a proper education practically makes it impossible for them to function outside if given the chance. Heck - even the amish let their kids go out and live in the world for a year and come back and CHOOSE to be amish. I read on cnn.com today about an 8 year old girl being granted a divorce. She was in Yemen or something like that, but her parents married her off & she was always running from her 30+ husband who would catch her and rape her. This 8 year old managed to get her case to a judge who granted it because, while girls can be married young there, it was clear she had not yet reached puberty & apparently they are not supposed to have sex with the wives until they reached puberty.
As far as I can see, this texas group is no better than that.

Calimari, I loved what you said about the children being placed with mainstream LDS families. We are LDS. I am so glad to see that people here are making the distinction between our mormon faith and that of these people. They in no way reflect the belief of me or the LDS faith. Absolutely no way. Hundreds of LDS families have quietly offered to take the children in. It's touchy, but you do it for the children. Poor things, what a nightmare both before and after the raid. They will be in our prayers, as well as the judge.
