Earthquake rattles Illinois - CNN.com

Do we have any members who live in this area?

Supposedly people in my area felt the shakes. Heck I was sleeping at that time. I heard thunder when we were about to go to bed so when dh woke me up and told me that the thunder I heard was earthquake I told him to "shut up" Of course it was thunder since the quake happened at 430 this morning but I still was in disbelief! LOL

I live about 30 minutes from Mt. Carmel and 40 minutes or so from West Salem. It woke me this morning from a dead sleep. The windows were rattling and the bed was shaking. It even woke my oldest son, who I thought could sleep through a tornado.

I didn't have any damage. Thank goodness. The news showed some of the damage in Mt. Carmel. An old school had been turned into an apartment building and the rough collapsed in on them but as far as I know noone was hurt.

We had another one around noon. It didn't last as long and I think (I was half asleep during the first one) it was a little less intense. Shook stuff close to the edge, but didn't knock anything off shelves. I have since moved anything I don't want broken off of shelves just in case there are more tremors.

I am sure there are pictures on our local news station 14 WFIE, The Tri-State's News Leader: Home Page, 14wfie.com

We were hit by it this morning at 5:30AM our time. DH and ds were up getting ds ready to be at weightlifting at 6, and DH said he turned and said "What the heck was that". DD & I were still in bed, but it was enough that it woke each of us. When I first woke up I thought my DH must be having a seizure or something because the bed was shaking, but he wasn't in the bed. Freaky...we don't get many earthquakes here.
