It's a shame that these girls get brainwashed into this life.

I just said that to DH this morning! If it were a 16 year old girl with a 17 year old boy -- you can see what happened and why. But these old men with young girls is CREEPY!

This one creepy lawyer on tv that represents them explained that the amount of pregnant teenagers was no different from the number of pregnant girls in any Texas town - proof that they have the same problems that we do in "normal" society.

Yes, there are a lot of pregnant teens in our society, but in the real world when you see a 13 year old carrying the baby of a 50 year old, that old guy goes to jail.

At what point are they going to lock up the fathers of all the babies??? Wouldn't that end it all then?

I find that hard to believe. That's over 58% of the girls age 13-17 pregnant. I know there are a lot of teen pregnancies, but if we have 58% of girls that age getting pregnant I guess I wasn't aware of it. That would be shocking (and another thread) also!!

I agree that even though I don't believe in teenage girls getting pregnant, it's an entirely different thing if it's an age appropriate boyfriend versus some guy old enough to be her father or even GRANDFATHER!!! Geez!

Our local news says many of the men have fled to Mexico and back to the other compounds in Utah.

Just to set the record straight....as a mainstream mormon myself. Sex outside of marriage is forbidden. I don't know anyone under the age of 18 who is married...in or outside of my church. I got married when I was almost 23..my husband was 25. That's actually closer to the norm. I have a few friends from my church that married young...the youngest I know of was 19. But I have also run into old high school friends who are not from my church who married a year or 2 out of high school.

I got married when I knew I was ready. I actually never liked havin a boyfriend because I didn't want to be tied down. When I met Chris...I just knew I was ready to be a partner w/ someone. He is my bestfriend and a great husband! I don't feel like I'm following his dreams only or that I'm "losing myself in the role of wife and mother." We are actually really happy and our daughter's birth brought us closer together as a couple. We planned her...she was born almost 3 years after we were married. We are thinking of trying for another when she is 2. Familes are the center of my church. However, everyone has to decide for themselves how many children they want...emotionally, financially, etc. Personally...I want 3 children..maybe 4. That seems to be the norm. in my church....at least on the east coast. I know Utah is a little different...more families w/ 5 or 6 kids. I say...if they can handle it....go for it. The important thing is that the children are raised by 2 parents who love them and support them. That's what matters!
