Unless you live under a rock, all we hear about is the enviroment! Global warming this, green that. The enviroment is good at correcting itself. Yes, we should not be so heavily dependent on oil, but we have and there is and will be enough! I HATE paying more at the pump just b/c we won't drill. If I had to choose between cheaper prices all the way around and the enviroment, I choose cheaper prices. There ARE still safe ways to drill. We are worshipping this earth way too much. I'm careful with gas, I recycle and use incandescent (sp?) lights, but you won't find me hugging a tree either. Al Gore was preaching about global warming and here he was (probably not now that he was caught) driving aroung a gas guzzler and had the highest electric bill in his area! The gov't is only doing things to temp. fix the problem, not perm. fix it. Someday cars will be extinct and who knows, maybe we'll be riding on the air.

Interestingly, our highways here, which are usually so backed up, have been emptier lately. People are conserving. We have to speak w/our wallets. Unfortunately, in truth, the oil companies will not suffer. They have to answer to their board of directors and stockholders, who only care about the almighty dollar so they can fill up THEIR luxury behemoths and pay their huge electric bills.

I watched this on the news this morning and I was very disappointed by the head of Exxon/Mobil. He said he isn't making very much money and everyone needs money that is what people are in business for.

I still believe that drilling up US oil is not the solution. It may cause a minor dip in gas prices eventually, but gas prices are never going to return where they were 6-7 years ago. Think about it, with all the money the US government would spent to drill up the oil and then refine it, where is that money going to come from? They will no doubt pass that cost onto the American consumer. That is why it is imperative that we find a new, permanent answer, and not just a band-aid solution meant to cover up the current gas price problem, which actually wouldn't even cover the entire wound and will most likely curl up and fall off sooner than it should anyway.

I think you mean there hasn't been a new refinery built in the last 30 years. Lots and lots of rigs have been built, lots of holes have been punched. I know because they are in our backyards here.

I don't think Alaska drilling is necessary if you take a look at the oil available in the Bakken formation in North Dakota. The recoverable oil is estimated to be 2.1 billion barrels, and ND is geographically closer to the rest of the United States, and would mean less pipeline to build to get to refineries. This amount of oil can be recovered over the next century, so the problem remains not of supply, but of refining for use. There have been a lot of rumblings lately about a possible state refinery being built, but I have a feeling that EPA regulations will make it a process only possible with great fortitude.

The people there want to drill it, but we need to drill more of our own. (They even have safe ways to do it, that will protect the enviroment) Plus, we haven't built a new oil rig in the US in over 30 years. The time is now to put a stop to this. I can't keep affording gas anymore if it keeps going up and up. That would be a great economic stimulus. Ethanol is also driving some of the prices up, as corn is also used as feed for animals that we eat. So that isn't really helping. Our senators should be working for us, the people. We elect them to be our voice in the government. I emailed my 2 US Senators, telling them that we want to drill our own oil. Here is a link that will give you a list to find and contact your US Senator:
