This has been a "hot topic" lately on all the news staions....they keep peddling the idea that we're NOT in a recession but all the signs are certainly saying otherwise...what do you think?

I don't think officially that we are because there has been growth - mind you small growth but still growth, overall. But I also could be very wrong.

I believe we are. Luckily, we are doing fine right now, but most of my employees are really hurting. 2 of them stopped eating lunch because they do not have the extra money, it's either they go without or the kids go without. 1 more eats ramen noodles every day to save. I am giving most of my commissions away to 1 guy who is losing his house since his wife was laid off and cannot find another job and unemployment ran out. We have a least 1 call in per week because someone ran out of gas or they do not have enough gas to come in. The people that are closer, I have gone to pick up. There are only 22 people in my garage and most of them are kids still living at home because they cannot afford to move out. These are people that even last year were doing fine. We would be in almost as bad of position, but I took Asst. Manger JUST to get the extra income and DH works 55+ hrs a week so we are doing ok. That has made up the difference in cost of living.

There's an official formula for recession - 2 straight quarters of decline. It considers unemployment and sales. According to that, we are not in recession. But unofficially, a lot of us are feeling like it is.

I can honestly say no i do not believe we are in a recession. I mean really if we were in a recession there would be no more starbucks, no more fast food restaurants in business and all the convieneces of today would be gone. YES times are getting harder, but I dont think we are quite in the recession times yet. I have a great solution for this problem anyways...lol lower the gas prices and we will be fine.......lol

I think Alot Of people really Don't Know what the Official Definition of A Recession is.

I Don't Know If those polls supply People with the True Definition before they Ask them what they think.

We Have Already Officially Been in a Recession a Few times , that I Remember

If I Knew None of the Countries Financial Woes - and I Went out yesterday ,
I Wouldn't Think Anything Was Wrong ...
Highways Are busy , Trucks Are Loading up the Turnpike , I Can Hear them Early Every Morning and Late at night The cell phone Place I Went into yesterday was Packed , Walmart was Busy , People Were Buying Flat screens , Outdoor Furniture and Video Games, There was a Wait At Dunkin donuts for my Coffee.

I Do know that there are Tough Times Out There.
Although I Do not ever remember Seeing So Much Media Before, So I Dont' Know if it just Seems Worse or what.

Which news do you watch? I have only heard that we ARE in a recession when I watch the news, lol.

I don't think it matters if we say recession or not. It's troublesome anyway we look at it.

I think you have a recession confused with a depression. A recession basically is just a short term slump in the economy. Even with a depression, the conveniences of today would not be gone. There would still be Starbucks, just not as many. Hmmmm, seems I recently heard Starbucks is closing quite a few stores.

The status of the very rich would not change, it is the middle class and under that would suffer the most and are suffering the most.

Yeah , I Read the joke that People may actually have to walk 4 blocks to get their Coffee
In Many Cities there are starbucks on every Street Corner. I think they over extended themselves.

Same deal with other Stores Closing.

Ok , So My Mall Does Not Really Need Three bath and Body works, Two Gap kids and 2 Motherhood Maternitys? You Mean I can Actually Walk through the mall and Find The ONE store??

Does anyone else think buisnesses set themselves up to Fail when they open too many Stores??
