I saw that on the news this morning. CTs minimum wage is already higher than that, its 7.60. As of Jan 1, it goes up to 8.00.

Holy cow! You're min wage is in the $6 range!! It's like $8 something here in Ontario (I don't know what Canada says the min min wage can be) and within a couple years it will be $10.

Here is one to really blow your mind. Here in NE our state min is the same as the Fed and follows it when it increases.

However there is an exception to our state minimum wage and it slapped me in the face a couple days ago. Got a call from a friend who wanted to know if I'd be interested in taking a waitery position on fill in for some upcoming banquets. I fell out of my chair when I got told what the pay was.......2.50 per hour + 50% of the 20% gratuity that is charged. Huh????

Went back and did some checking with our Labor Dept and found out that is pretty good pay considering this state mandates a minimum of 2.13 per hour on all waitery jobs in which a gratuity is tacked on to the customers check. And furthermore, the business doesn't even half to give you your tips over the difference between your wage and the state minimum. In this case this place would give me 10% of the tips for the shift, but they could legally get away with only giving me 4.05 per hour of the tips.

I got told I could make an easy 300-400 in one 5 hour shift. That means the business is making an additional 600-800 in just the gratuity charge and they only need to ensure they pay me 32.75.

Am I the only one that sees something wrong with this picture?
