Merrill Jessop was married to Carolyn Jessop who wrote the book, "Escape." I am sooo glad to see that he was caught/surrendered. According to his ex-wife, he was one of the closest people to Jeffs and one of the most awful.

I must say, though, that not all of these families are like the ones we hear about through the media. There are some who do believe they are doing God's will and do not marry children.

I do realize that some of them may not have married children, but I think they still turned a blind eye to those who did, in the name of religion.

I see that a fifth man was charged with failing to report child abuse. Good. Now the authorities need to go after some of these women who didn't step up and do anything.

This is true. It's too bad they are so frightened by their "leaders."

I am glad that they turned themselves in. I live about 30 minutes from Colorado City. We see the families all over town shopping, eating out etc. It is hard to watch as our legal system turns a blind eye to the problems these type of cults produce. We have dozens of young boys who were run out of their town who now must rely on charity/the welfare system to survive. Very sad for everyone. The majority of the women who I see refuse to make eye contact or even acknowledge your presence. They have been raised to believe that we are evil.
Getting a few of the men off the streets are just a drop in the bucket!

I think the Merrill Jessop that was arrested was Carolyn Jessop's step-son, not her ex-husband, the Merrill that was arrested is in his early 30's, Carolyn's ex-husband would be in his late 50's now.

I could be wrong but I read that on the Salt Lake Tribune website.

I know where you are coming from---BUT I really believe that these women have been brainwashed into believing they are doing God's work & this is the way that it is supposed to be in God's eyes. I have a hard time blaming the women for the most part.

Ah, you are right. I re-read the article. You know I thought it would have been bigger news if it was him. Oh well, maybe he will be next!
