Now I'm not condoning what this woman did but I'm sure she wasn't trying to harm her grandchild. Nonetheless, it was still a major lapse in judgement.

I wonder if she was trying to give her a parade experience, you know how the beauty pageant girls sit in the sunroof and wave. I know it just says on the roof of the car, but I wonder if she could have been sitting out of a sunroof. Just a thought.

A few years back it was in the local papers here that some family was moving, strapped a mattress to the top of their car & put the 12-13 year old daughter on top to hold it down while they drove. Of course, she went flying off the car when it stopped at some point (these people have no concepts of the laws of physics apparently) and she died. Stupid people.

There was a teen killed in our county when I was in school by doing a similar thing in a truck. Tragic.

I watched someone do the mattress thing.
We had put our old nasty futon on the curb, and 10 mins later, someone asked if they could have it. Feel free! I figured they'd call a friend or something, since they were driving a little hatchback, but nope. They put the mattress thing on the car, the frame over that, then the 10-12 y/o kid stood on the bumper and leaned over the whole mass, and left.
I didn't quite know what to say or do.... We were living in a trailer park at the time, so they didn't go far, but still....
