What do you think?

Frank says GOP housing attacks racially motivated

From the article:

Rep. Barney Frank said Monday that Republican criticism of Democrats over the nation's housing crisis is a veiled attack on the poor that's racially motivated.

Frank also dismissed charges the Democrats failed on their own or blocked Republican efforts to rein in the mortgage companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The federal government recently took control of both entities.

I'll answer my own question- I think he's being very dishonest about his role in the whole housing crisis and is crying racism to avoid taking any of the blame.

Here's a 2003 quote from Barney Frank:

''These two entities -- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- are not facing any kind of financial crisis,'' said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ''The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.''

Also from the article:

Among the groups denouncing the proposal today were the National Association of Home Builders and Congressional Democrats who fear that tighter regulation of the companies could sharply reduce their commitment to financing low-income and affordable housing.

As I said a few days ago, I can't imagine who votes for Barney Frank. He's been nuts for years. When he can't defend his own actions, he has to pull out the race card. Shame on him.

That is just plain ridiculous. He is using the race card here to detract from the truth, that the government was pushing for loans for those that could not affort them, now we (those of us who have been responsible with our money) have to foot the bill to bail them out. It sickens me. This has nothing to do with race. If you can't afford something, then you don't buy it, plain and simple.

It's the silly and completely off base. But I say that about a lot of stories on tv or in print. People will say anything, and the press will gobble it up like it is newsworthy.
