I've always thought this should be more of a focus in school.

Alomost everyone can give a list of things they learned in school but have never used since.

But think,we all buy something w/a c.c, make a car payment, blance abank account, and pay taxes.

All are a daily occurrence for most of us,yet little or no education on them from the school system.

What's your thoughts?

Most definitely! I think that would be a great add in for schools. And very useful.

Absolutely. Economics education in general is abysmal in this country. It's why so many lies can be put across as fact in the media -- the general public has little or no understanding of what actually is entailed in the financial sector.

I totally agree. I've always wondered why that wasn't taught more. Along that note...they teach 5th graders here how to write a check and record it in a check register. Good skill to teach but I'm not sure how much it's going to help a student that age. I'm certainly not going to let my kids practice their newfound "skills" with my checkbook.

100% yes. Shout it from the rooftops "Yes!".

Can you tell it's something I feel very strongly about?

Personal finance, investing, economics and current events. There is so much to teach. Makes me want to homeschool!

Yes, but only if the person teaching it is qualified to do so.

When I was in High School we were required to take Consumer Math which covered everything from balancing a checkbook to managing credit. I wish it was required now.
