Surprise: Lean times may actually make you fat - Diet and nutrition

I believe this is true. I think more people will be reaching for the cheap foods and comfort foods now.

Being laid off from work, and having to 'ration' the gas in my car, staying home all the time, does make me want to snack more.

People snack when they are stressed or depressed. Plus fattening food tends to be cheaper than healthy food. Just compare the price of a cheeseburger vs a salad at McDonalds.
