I had been watching an item that was for sale. Well I waited to bid which was dumb on my part. So someone else had won the auction. This item was important to me because it is a link to my families history. The pottery was made from clay that was farmed from my grandfathers farm. The pottery is also no longer made. I was hoping to win the item and give a piece of it to each member of the family. So I emailed the buyer asking them if they would be interested in selling the item and explained why. I also emailed the seller telling them what I did. My intentions were not to seem shady but just to ask if they were interested. What do you guys think?

I personally dont think that you did anything wrong. I probably would have dont the same thing. Its part of your families history and its important to you besides who knows maybe you will get lucky and they will decide to sell it to you. I am crossing my fingers!

I'm curious to see what happens here...I had another bidder email me one time asking to buy something from me that I'd won. It was just a shirt from the Gap and nothing like your situation so I told them no (I really liked the shirt!!) but if it had been something like that, I probably would have given it up. Let us know what happens!

I never heard anything back from the buyer or seller. I felt a little funny about doing it. Come to find out though the pottery that I was looking for is actually called National China instead of Salineville Pottery. This is what my mom had been looking for instead of the other name. So when I checked ebay again I actually found some pieces. I'm just waiting on the auction to end. If all goes well everyone in the family will be getting a piece for Christmas.
