I'm on my second attempt to give away a car seat. I posted the item for $5 but then said they could have it for free when the buyer contacted me. The people say they are coming and then it is a no show!!

I know- that's frustrating. If you really want to give it away, try freecycle. You might have better luck there.

We've been very lucky buying and selling on Craigslist...we've sold a couch, ride-on-toys, wagon, outdoor playhouse....bought a porch swing, wooden playset, snowblower, etc. Pictures seem to help a lot.

Freecycle is the way to go for give aways!

I have had great luck with Craigslist, both buying/selling (or giving away).

If I am giving something away on Craigslist, I usually make sure that I say that the first person to show up get the item. That way if I have somebody who keeps emailing me back forth about pick up dates and times, I don't feel locked into waiting around for them. I will also throw small items in the back of the minivan and tell people people that they can meet me at the kids soccer practice or something else so that I am not stuck home waiting around.

We sold a bedroom set this summer and early in the week I heard from a guy who wanted to pick it up on Saturday. He never came to look at it in person, just said he wanted it and would come on Saturday. Well, Friday I had real buyers with cash in hand so I sold it. I had been clear about first come, first served. The other guy was all upset but I did what was right for us. You can never be sure about who will show up with Craigslist.

Everytime I have posted items on Craigslit they have been spoken for the same day. Pics really do help. The last item I placed w/o pic was a stack of moving boxes free to the first reply. They were gone within an hour. The thing I don't like is when something has been sold and they leave the ad up. That has happened several times.

if you have baby items to give away, there are many pregnancy centers that accept donations and are given to needy clients. Check your yellow pages...Hope Pregnancy Center is one in CT my daughter works for.

As far as clothing, I gave a bag of clothes and a few pairs of shoes to my neighbor. She has 7 kids, 3 little girls.

I just sold a several plush hand puppets on CL, and the buyer was so pleased (and nice), that she offered me more money than I was asking! How's that for wonderful?
