I always feel like I've let him down when I bid for him while he's at work and then I loose the auction in the last 10 sec! & this one was only by $1. I wait until there is only a little over a minute left, but someone always swoops in and outbids me in the last few seconds.

They probably have it set up on e-snipe.

What the heck is e-snipe? I guess I'm not as Ebay savy as I like to think. If it is what I think it is, that makes sense because I was the highest bidder with only 10 sec and there was like $8 between my current bid and my max! And their bid was exactly $1 more than my max! GRRRRR

E snipe is a service you can use to place bids for you at the last second. You just tell it what your max is and for a small fee it will place the bid for you.

Try to remember you probably didn't lose by just a $1.00. The bids probably increased by $1.00 and so they only had to beat your highest bid by $1.00. Their maximum could have been much higher. You can avoid this happening by always putting the maximum you are willing to pay in when you bid. We have a sniper service and I always bid in the last seconds. But if the person I'm bidding against has a higher maximum set in, I would lose anyway.

Do you find that the sniper service pays for itself? We snipe when we bid, but I don't trust our connection to wait till there is less than a minute left.

I always enter the highest I am willing to go. And yes, I did think that maybe that person was willing to go higher and after more thought decided that they probably had entered a much higher bid and ebay was bidding in the $1 increments.

Oh well, at least I got a rare cookbook for my Dad and wasn't sniped on that one!! According to him we got a great deal!! He was willing to pay about double what I got it for!
