I bid on a dress for my daughter on Ebay for the first time yesterday. I was outbid last night. The item still has 6 hours left but I recieved the following email from the seller's Ebay account.

I'm the seller of the item that you've recently bided through the eBay system. I`ve just been contacted by the eBay staff who informed me that due to some reasons the eBay policy automatically proclaims you to be the winner by default. I need your agreement on this so I can contact eBay to confirm you that you're the winner, otherwise I'll relist the item. I am sorry for the inconvenience, but I need an answer asap. You will have the oportunity to purchase the item at your last given price wich is US $130.00 .If you agree my offer please respond this email or contact me at . Thank you!

Since this is my first auction and I have read some of your horror stories I am VERY leery. Is this normal?

Because of the typos and the weird wording, I would assume this is spam. If you go to My Ebay, does this message show up under My Messages? If not, it is spam. I have never heard of such a thing. I would not respond.

Sounds like a scam to me too. Did you really bid $130 on a dress??? Never answer emails from ebay that come into your email acct, always go in and do business through MYEBAY. If its a scam you can forward it to spoof@ebay.com, so they can find the scammer and take care of it.

Yes, I did. It is a national level pageant dress. $130 is really a good price as some go for over $1,000.

I did report the email to Ebay and found out it was a scam.

Thanks for your help.
