I've decided to be intimidated by selling on ebay and to take the plunge. I thought I would start by selling an extra snuglu I have that is new. How do you know where to start the bid?

Usually I start pretty low around 99 cents because then people aren't scared off by your outstanding starting price. You can always set a reserve if you are scared of not getting what you want. I have only been burned once or twice on not getting enough money and I have over 550 transactions!

If you go to the selling section and click on research, you'll find a small link in a paragraph that is called Closed Listings or something like it. This link lets you search old listings for items and what they did or didn't sell for. Look carefully at ones that did and didn't sell and then pattern your listing after the more succesfull ones. If you click on the number of bids, you can see what the person listed the item at.

I also look at whats listed now and how they are going and then take all of that and set my price.

I say start it at the least amount you are comfortable accepting if it ends at 1 bid. Hopefully it won't though.

If it is a hot item, I start my bid at $.99 to get lots of people looking and hopefully lots of action. It it is not so hot I price it low enough to get bids, but at a price I am comfortable with accepting. Good luck and do look at the completed listings. It is a huge help when trying to decide what to do with an item. Sometimes, I decide not to even waste my money listing....
