Well I just sold my first thing on craigs list and have yet to use e-bay. I am a newbie to the whole online trading thing. So far I like craigs list what I sold was a recliner and I think with big items like this it is better to sell locally. The con is that you are putting yourself out there If you have something that needs to be picked up you are having to give out your address.
I like that craigs list has other classifieds. I can advertise my moms group for free.
Like I said I haven't used e-bay yet. I like that you do have more security features more information on sellers and buyers. Don't like that there are fees and shipping costs.
Either way is good really though I like word of mouth first. I have a large network of friends many moms with young kids. I would probably post things on my local message boards for my mom's group first and then if no interest It would go to a larger on-line market

Craigslist is so much easier than eBay. Plus eBay doesn't always offer the security I need to see what I'm buying first!

Hi there...newbie on board...I've used ebay and sometimes it works. craigs also has worked for me in the past, particularly if I'm giving something away free. The for sale stuff tends to be harder. People seem to like the furniture the best!

I found another site that I've been trying, Listasaurus.com. the best thing for me is they actually PAY you to list your ads...that's something new! The site's fairly new but they also offer video classifieds (they pay you for that too). I figure as long as it doesn't cost anything, the more places you can put stuff the better!

oh and they do have categories similar to craigs...

I think both are great services and it depends on what you are buying/selling. I've bought and sold several baby & maternity items on craigslist and have met the people in a parking lot to exchange the $ and goods. I would prefer that they don't know where I live bc you can never be too careful. I've also gone to people's houses to pick stuff up but feel a little weird doing it, esp since I have DS along with me. The only drawbacks I've encountered with craiglist is finding a good time to meet people since a lot work during the day and they don't have a huge selection of stuff like ebay does.

i am definitely an ebayer all the way, never really gave craigslist a try. but i believe i will. the only thing i don't like about craigslist is the fact that the selling price is set. on ebay, it's an auction, so the item can sell for way more than you ever imagined. and for me, that opportunity makes all the difference in the world.

I consider craigslist like a garage sale you can always dicker with the seller and see where you can get. I bought a used video monitor that was being sold for $90 for $75, a jogging stroller for $35 instead of $50, etc. Most people are just happy to get rid of the items and are more than willing to negotiate.

for someone like me, im a very short term person and disorganized. craigslist is very to the point and short term - i love it.

i would go ebay if i have something very desireable that i know would do well - but if i want to get rid of stuff that i want quick cash and want a bit more than i could get at a garage sale, then im craigslist all the way.
