I bought a box of fabric at an Estate auction and paid $2 for it. Most was heavier cotton and everything was selling as planned...I was making money...I was happy. This one fabric was from the 60's and had these weird orange and yellow mushrooms all over with smiling faces. I had about 20 yards of the stuff and it sold for upwards of $70 a YARD!!!!! Apparently Japanese women love mushrooms, because they were bidding like crazy women on the stuff. I made a KILLING on it.

I also bought a box of old cotton feedsacks with novelty prints on them...there were maybe 40 in the box. Some went as high as $120 and I probably made $1000 on the box.

What are your best "surprise" items???

I have two items:

I recently sold a maternity dress that was walmart brand that I bought at a salvage store for about $3. It sold for $16.00!!!

I also recently sold a bath ring/seat with suction cups for $20. I paid $2.50 for it at a consignment shop over 2 years ago and used it with 2 babies!

I had 3 Christmas My Little Ponies (from 2003 I think). I sold them during the summer of 2004 as a set, and they went for $75. I spent $5 a piece on them. That's the only "wow" I've had on eBay. It was dowsed when the woman who bought them kept sending me emails about how she hadn't received them. The auction ended DURING hurricane Frances. I had no power for like 8 days straight. AND to make matters worse, she lived in the area, so she had been hit too. Apparently she had power and a LIFE again. I sent a letter with the package telling her to try being a little more patient. Her house may have withstood everything but mine barely did, and her ponies were the last thing on my mind. *throwing rocks*

My 50 year old mom was given a set of precious moment winter dolls as a gag gift...the plastic kind...but she didn't have any use for them. She gave them to me for a garage sale, whatever, and I put them on ebay. They sold for $63!!! We were BOTH shocked!!

I found a role playing game at GW for like $1. The box sitll had the plastic around it. I can't remember what the game was, but I figured it was one of those games that probably wouldn't do anything. I think it sold for $10 and I was really suprised at that. LOL

I have totally found that some of the items I find at GW, and I think I'll be lucky to make my money back, always do AWESOME. The ones I think I"ll get rich on, end up going for opening bid or none at all.

I found a Strawberry Shortcake video still in the plastic one time a Salvation ARmy. Paid $2 and sold it for almost $25!! LOL

AFTER I read this thread, I was at Goodwill just looking around (bought NOTHING, thank you very much! LOL). Anyhow, there were two ladies, each on cell phones, in the shoe area. They were finding the brands of shoes and having someone on the other line check ebay to see how similiar ones were selling!! If they were going good, they put the shoes in their buggy. If they weren't selling, they put them back on the rack. That was the first time I had ever seen that!
