I dont charge exact shipping, I do a flat rate. I mostly sell clothes, and they are fairly lightweight. I charge $4.05 and $3. If I"m wrong I eat it, oh well! Most of the time, the items will ship for those prices though so I don't worry about it too much.
Another thing is, My auctions did AWESOME this time around and I think its because I charged a flat REASONALBE rate for shipping.

sometimes i'll send a message and ask why the shipping fees are so much on something so small.
but in reality, ebay is so large that no one cares. so i dont bid on stuff that the shipping is too high - and for those who are willing to pay that extra shipping must not care. so there is nothing really that you can do, is there?
its just human nature to get just a bit more from a situation for their own purposes!
has anyone messaged the *bidder* and asked them why on earth they're willing to pay that much in shipping??

I saw a couple weeks ago under "eBay announcements" that they were going to try to put a stop to the over charging on shipping. I know they are aware of the problem, just not sure how they are going to fix it.

Well recently, a friend from another board bid on a set and won it for 1.50, but the shipping was 9.95. She debated with herself and decided to go ahead and bid because if she won the auction, it was still a good price for what she wanted. Other auctions for the same set were going higher, and so this one, even with the shipping was a good deal. When she got the item, it only cost $5 to mail and now of course, curiosity got the better of her. SO She did email the seller, and was given the supplies and time crap, but also that she listed the item for the wrong price and she already got a deal so what was her problem???
Ugh!

Here is what I found on ebay
"Hi. This is Sarah Brubacher from eBay's Global Policy team in Trust & Safety. At eBay Live! Bill Cobb announced that, as of June 19th, eBay is taking a much stronger stand against excessive Shipping & Handling charges. (Read Bill's original AB post from the event.)
In addition to stepping up enforcement against egregious violations, we have made some clarifications to our Excessive Shipping & Handling policy. The changes outline the types of charges sellers may pass on to the buyer in the form of shipping and handling. They also provide guidelines that sellers can use to make sure their listings are in compliance with the policy. Simply stated, sellers can feel confident they are in compliance by charging actual shipping fees plus actual costs for packaging materials.
As Bill mentioned, our Community has told us – and our research confirms -- excessive shipping prices drive buyers from our site. This hurts the entire marketplace. These unfair charges also un-level the playing field, allowing some sellers to hide their costs in the shipping charges to manipulate their priority in search. In the coming months, we will be proactively looking for listings that are in violation of our policy, and we'll be following up on member reports. Please know that it will take some time to clean up the marketplace, but your help and cooperation, we can regain buyer trust and re-level the playing field for the vast majority of honest sellers.
Thank you to those of you who have been reporting examples of excessive shipping that you see on our site. It is only through working together that we will make an impact on this issue.
If you would like to read further about this policy, please visit the Excessive Shipping Charges Policy page. "
Sincerely, Sarah Brubacher
Global Trust & Safety Policy Team

I buy stuff all the time on ebay, including large lts of items. I usually email the seller and ask if they'll send it to me in a flat rate box- up to 77 lbs. for $8.88. So far, eevery seller has done this for me to save on shipping. I don't mind paying handling costs. If a seller wants to add a couple of bucks or so for handling, I say good for them. I even say it in my email to the seller. From my selling experiences on ebay, I know how time consuming it is and I am all for a seller making a profit, heck I want to make money too! it's part of our capitalist society.

Flat rate boxes are priority flat rate boxes and they are free. You can go to the USPS.com website and have them delivered right to your door.
$10 shipping on a $1 shirt. Other than a yard sale, tell me exactly where to find a nice shirt for $11.00. You have to look at the whole picture, not just the shipping charges. If the shirt isn't worth $11 to you, then don't bid. It's the same as if you were shopping in a store and decided a shirt isn't worth what you are going to pay for it.
I flat rate price all of my shipping charges, so whether it is a set of salt and pepper shakers or a lot of 15 books, I usually charge $5.95. This helps pay for all of the extra costs for the item. A lot of people use their overinflated shipping to avoid ebay final value fees and that is why ebay is cracking down on them. Not to help the buyers.

You know I am to the point where it is just pointless to buy on Ebay! I bought 2 lots from this seller, 1 lot was 9 items in a 6-12... $55.00, the second was a 21pc. lot 12-18 with a $30 shipping! SHe combined the shipping to $25
I made an offer on another lot she had and she said that she would accept the offer if I would pay the $30 shipping fee on top of the last shipping fee so she could ship together!
That is $55 in shipping fees for like 50 or so items... BABY ITEMS!
