I just got this special edition of the gymbohaven Newletter in my inbox today and though the info would be valuable for all of us. If you have any tips you would like to add, please feel free to do so!
We sent out our annual ebay newsletter last week and received a lot of the same questions, so here are some of them and answers that I hope help!
Q. Is Gymboree still profitable? Isn't Ebay saturated with it?
My personal experience with Ebay is that over the years it has changed. We could have easily put an outfit on ebay and have it be hard to find and have someone pay twice as much as we paid for it.
It has become more saturated with sellers BUT it has also gotten more saturated with buyers as well!! More people are buying it and more ladies overseas are looking for it too!
To be profitable, you do need to be more selective in your choices if you are planning to ebay as a business. Getting items during % off sales, gymbuck redemption and the baby sale are the best time. Also knowing what sizes and styles are selling out fast - do some research with Gymboreenews (their newsletter has a spot by Julie that goes over what's selling and hot!) and look at past auctions in the last week to see what is flying off the shelves.
Q. Can I resell my kids clothes and get any money out of them? What is the best way to list them - large groups or single items or in groups?
A. Last year I sold Amber clothes (used and well taken care of) on ebay. I made almost $3000. I had them in sets - Top, Bottom, Matching socks, Hair (hat, hairbows or hairband) - each set sold for what I paid for them on sale and was enough for me to purchase the next years clothing.
I found that large lots - like the whole line of Rocky Mountain in 6/7 - would be ok to list at the beginning of the selling season. After that ladies are looking for pieces or sets to add to their kids closets. You do have to be careful listing large lots, it knocks out a large amt of bidders as they can't go that high as you would like and putting a reserve amt on it also benefits you. This way you don't loose out if it ends below what you want.
If you have NWT items - Shirts/Tops - sell them individually. They make a better profit this way - Also the more auctions you have the more they are seen, always put in the auction 'I have more of the same size and style listed'. Don't keyword spam by putting the brands!!
If you have NWT items - socks, hair - that you bough dirt cheap, throw them into a set and it will go higher. Ladies love a little added bonus to an auction!
Q. Is it ok to start auctions at .99 cents? Are reserves good?
A. Hmmm... IF you know that the item is hot, that its selling fast yes putting it at .99 cents and letting it run its course is ok. BUT if your listing an item that has gone up and down all week, list it at the minimum price that you would want to sell it for.
Reserves as stated in the question before are good on large lots where you don't want to loose out. But in reselling I don't find it necessary. As long as I am happy with the starting bid - if it goes higher, I just have a bigger grin
Q. Should I use the Bold, additional items on ebay?
A. Yes if you have a hot item or a large lot that you want to get attention. I've also done it if I'm listing 35-40 auctions at the end of a season and want to bring a little attention to my auctions. *I include in the auction that I have more listed!*
